Our participation in the 5th International Congress on Water Management in Chile

Last month, DHI Peru took part in the 5th International Congress on Water Management in Mining which was held from 18 to 20 May 2016 in Chile. During the congress, we had set up a booth where we were able to showcase our expertise as well as establish connections with potential clients. Robin Dufour, the managing director of DHI Peru, also gave a presentation on MIKE Powered by DHI FEFLOW software.

The Water Management in Mining Congress is one of the major congresses in Chile that is concerned with the development of sustainable water. The congress focuses on the research for new ideas and initiatives that can improve excellence in mining activities. More than 200 participants attended the Congress with the aim to exchange experience and knowledge between professionals, operators and researchers in delivering sustainable development goals.

Due to the limited water resource, the focus for the mining sector is to improve the development of initiatives that accurately reflects the quantity water supplies. During the Congress, industry leaders stressed the techniques for efficient water use and water recycling, mine dewatering and water footprint to manage the diminishing water resource.

Robin Dufour presented about DHI’s FEFLOW-FEPEST software and open pit dewatering at the Congress. He explained how the new tools could be used for evaluating and exploring the uncertainty in mine dewatering rates and its ability to optimise the cost effectiveness of field characterisation programs and mining operation costs.

Michael Gabora, principle hydrogeologist on mining from DHI USA, has also provided his expertise and was the key help and support to DHI Peru throughout the event.
